General Hospital fans say Rory Gibson has made Michael his own

The recast for Chad Duell has nailed his new role.

Rory Gibson is an immediate fan favorite

General Hospital fans have found common ground and agree that Rory Gibson “IS” Michael Corinthos III. This is the first time in nearly 60 years of watching the soaps. I have observed a recast completely immersing himself in the role and being accepted so quickly. When Gibson walked into the Nurses Ball and took Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver), I knew he had nailed it, and other viewers agreed.

Recasts often don’t work out; when they do, they have to take time to grow on the audience. Soap fans frequently bicker back and forth about whether the powers that be made a good choice or the wrong one. If any General Hospital viewers don’t agree that Gibson is working out as Michael, I have not heard about it.

Chad Duell is not coming back

Chad Duell had been in the role since April 2010, and he was beloved and missed but he decided to leave. When his last scenes aired in January of this year, his followers hoped he would return. The soap vet even said the door was being left open, but the window of oportunity has now closed.

General Hospital rolls on without him with Rory Gibson as Michael. Fans knew the character would return to Port Charles because he was mentioned several times a week while recuperating in the German burn clinic. Viewrs wondered if Chad was returning but now know he has been replaced.

Gibson has made Michael his own

Rumors that Gibson had the role began when he and Katelynn Macmillan began following each other on social media. The eagle-eyed viewers who noticed this and made the prediction were correct. Gibson seems to be working out and I have yet to hear any General Hospital fans compare the two actors.

Soaps sometimes recast with those who resemble the previous cast member, but GH did the opposite. When Robert Adamson was a temporary recast for Duell fans, it was noted that he had darker hair. Duell was blonde and Gibson had dark hair, but fans don’t care. No one is saying “Chad who” but those who watch the ABC soap have accepted the new Michael and are invested in what happens next in his life.

Gibson’s Michael is confident, self-assured, and has great chemistry with Sophia Mattsson (Sasha Gilmore). He was there for her during the birth of Daisy, and how she leaned on him was amazing. Some fans wonder if they are falling in love and will get back together.

What’s next for Michael

Adamson had posted on social media that he thought he might have been considered for the role of Michael long-term, but fans say Gibson was the right choice. Gibson has shown his acting skills within a few weeks more than he did in two years of portraying Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless. The chemistry between Gibson and Mattsson is noticable.

It’s obvious to fans now that the issue was that Y&R did not give him the right material to work with. When Michael thanked Willow Cornthos (Katelynn MacMullen) for delivering his child, viewers hoped this meant they might compromise on the custody agreement but that’s not likely.

Spoilers tease that Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) will do something underhanded to keep the feud between Michael and Willow going. which will break any truce betweem th two.
