Not Everyone Is in Favor of Angel Reese’s Invitation to Michael Jordan as
Chicago Star Falls Victim
Angel Reese has never been shy about dreaming big. NCAA champion? Check. No. 7 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft? Check. Pro debut with the Chicago Sky? Check. So what’s next on her list? Playing in front of Chicago’s biggest legend, Michael Jordan himself.
After just her first day at training camp, the rookie star wasn’t afraid to set the bar high. When asked if she’d want MJ to come watch the Sky play, Reese didn’t hesitate. “Yes! I would love Michael Jordan to come to the game,” Reese said with a big smile. “Of course, if I can. I mean, I don’t know who knows him. I don’t got his number.” That was classic Reese — honest, fearless, and aiming for the stars.
Now in her second season, she’s stepping up as a leader for a Chicago Sky team hungry to bounce back after missing the playoffs in 2024. With new coach Tyler Marsh and draft picks like her old LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith, Reese wants to put the Sky back on Chicago’s map—and she sees Jordan’s presence as a way to spark that fire.
But this wasn’t even the first time she’s thrown the invite out there.
Do you think Michael Jordan should attend a Chicago Sky game to support Angel Reese’s dream?
Yes, it would be a huge boost for the WNBA
No, he should stick to NBA games
Only if the Sky make it to the playoffs
I don’t care as long as the Sky perform well
Do you think Sophie Cunningham’s move to the Indiana Fever will elevate her career?
Absolutely, it’s a fresh start she needs
No, she should have stayed with Phoenix Mercury
Maybe, but it depends on team dynamics
I don’t follow WNBA trades closely
How do you feel about athletes like Sophie Cunningham focusing on brand endorsements over playing overseas?
Smart move, it’s all about financial security
They should focus more on their game
Depends on the brand and its values
I miss seeing them play internationally
With Caitlin Clark and other stars locked in, who should the Fever choose for their final roster spot?
Jaelynn Brown for her past performance against the Fever
Makayla Timpson for her defensive prowess
Yvonne Ejim for her diverse skill set
Bree Hall for her potential upside
Do you think Makayla Timpson will become a key player for the Fever this season?
Absolutely, she’s a game-changer
Maybe, but she needs time to develop
No, she’s just a backup
It’s too early to tell

Way back during her first preseason run with the Sky, she had already made her wish loud and clear: “I want Michael Jordan to come to a game,” she told WGN News. “I’ve never met him. That’s why the first time I want him to come to a game.” You can’t blame her for trying. Jordan is still the name in Chicago sports, even almost two decades after his last NBA game.
His six championships with the Bulls in the ‘90s didn’t just win titles — they changed the whole identity of the city. To this day, “His Airness” remains an icon, whether he’s sitting courtside at NBA games, tearing up golf courses, or making moves in NASCAR with Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin.
But here’s the thing: for all his appearances in the sports world, there’s one thing Jordan has never done — show up at a WNBA game. Not once, publicly at least. Crazy, right? You’d think a simple appearance could do wonders for a league that’s still fighting for bigger stages and brighter spotlights. Especially since MJ himself made a big move in 2021 by signing 11 WNBA players to Jordan Brand, the largest group of WNBA endorsees ever at the time.
“These amazing athletes are defining a lot of things about Jordan Brand,” he said proudly back then. Names like Maya Moore, Aerial Powers, Satou Sabally — these were game-changers he believed in. He’s even hyped up players like Dearica Hamby for their off-court impact, but he’s still a no-show at WNBA arenas. In Chicago, where Sky minority owner Dwyane Wade shows love by cheering courtside and mentoring players, Jordan’s absence hits different.
So why not show the same support courtside?
That’s part of what makes Reese’s request feel so personal. She’s not just another rookie trying to make a splash. She’s stepping into a city that legends like Candace Parker helped turn into a women’s basketball hotspot. Reese knows the history, and she wants to build on it. After all, she’s said it herself — she wants to bring more championships to Chicago.
Even after rocking the 2024 Met Gala and owning the red carpet, Reese didn’t forget her mission. In a post-game press conference not long after, she repeated it once more, almost like a mantra: “I’ll start there. I want Michael Jordan to come to a game,” she said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him at a women’s basketball game. So, I want him to come to a game. Yeah, that’s really the person I really want. Obviously, being in Chicago and everything he’s done for the Chicago Bulls, that would be really cool to see.”
But — and there’s always a ‘but’ — not everyone is buying into Reese’s dream.

While Angel Reese’s invitation to Michael Jordan came from a place of pure admiration, not everyone saw it that way. Fans quickly turned her bold request into a fresh battleground, and the reactions came fast — and harsh.
One fan immediately brought up the ever-present rivalry between Reese and Caitlin Clark, commenting bluntly, “Jordan would come to see CC. He appreciates skill.” It didn’t feel like just a random dig either. After all, Michael Jordan himself has praised Caitlin Clark in remarkable terms. In a rare public statement, MJ described Clark as a player with an exceptional range of skills, calling her abilities standouts in today’s game. And when a legend like Jordan — often considered the best to ever play — makes a statement like that, people listen.
Jordan didn’t stop there. He even said Caitlin Clark’s talent is so advanced, she’s outperforming players on the U.S. Olympic team roster for 2025. That’s not a small compliment, considering the Olympic team is packed with some of the best players in the world.
Naturally, with a comparison like that hanging in the air, many fans weren’t shy about voicing who they thought Jordan would rather show up for.
It’s not just Jordan who sees Clark’s generational impact. Last season, as Clark was at the free-throw line, Nancy Lieberman made the now-famous comparison — putting Clark in the same breath as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. “What Caitlin Clark has done for the game is generational,” Lieberman said. “As a baller to a baller, I just want to say thank you to you Caitlin Clark for just lifting our game up.”
So when Reese tossed out her dream of seeing Jordan at a Sky game, some fans couldn’t resist firing back. Another comment rolled in: “Angel Reese you want MJ to show up, make it to the Championship game — there you would see him.” The sting was real. Especially since, after Reese suffered a season-ending wrist injury last year, the Sky struggled mightily, ending the season on a five-game losing streak, including an ugly 87-54 blowout loss to the Connecticut Sun.
And it didn’t stop there. Another fan posted a full comment aimed right at Reese’s performance, saying, “He’s not coming there to watch you brick layups,” referencing a viral clip of Reese missing a logo three during Unrivaled’s 71-64 loss to Laces BC. Others were even less subtle. One simply wrote, “😂😂😂😂😂never gonna happen,” laughing off the idea altogether. To top it all off, one fan summed up the general tone by posting a GIF of the McDonald’s clown laughing hysterically at Reese’s request.
Even though Michael Jordan hasn’t responded yet to Angel’s invite, the way fans pounced on her dream shows how tough the spotlight can be. In the end, what started as an innocent wish turned into yet another reminder: Angel Reese’s road in the pros isn’t just about winning games — it’s about weathering every storm that comes with dreaming out loud.
