Caitlin Clark is set to make less money per hour than at least one WNBA mascot this season.
While not everyone will admit it, Clark is now the face of the WNBA and is the reason for the new wave of interest in the league over the past year.
The former Iowa star will make $78,066 in her second season with the Indiana Fever, which roughly translates into $40 an hour if you convert the WNBA into the typical 40-hour work week.
The sum seems very low for someone who’s the new face of women’s basketball, but it gets worse.
The WNBA’s newest job listing shows that the league’s newest franchise, the Golden State Valkyries, is in the market for a mascot and is willing to pay $130-160 per hour for the upcoming season.

While technically, that hardly means the mascot will make more money than the Fever point guard, that hourly rate got fans going online.
“Triple of Caitlin Clarks salary to be a mascot,” one noted.
“$160 an hour? They definitely shooting you out of a cannon,” another joked.
“Not the mascot getting 130 an hour but the practice players get minimum wage SMH,” said a third.
This isn’t new for Clark and other WNBA stars, either; several mascots were paid more per hour than plenty of them last season. But that could soon be a thing of the past as a new collective bargaining negotiating period is coming up.
As for Clark, she’s getting that big bag from Nike, something whoever’s going to be the Valkyries’ mascot won’t be able to brag about.
