The 2025 WNBA season is set to start Sunday, with training camps opening across the league. Regular season action will begin on May 16, and it will be full throttle from there.
Last season was full of storylines, and one team that seemed to be in the news daily was the Chicago Sky. The Sky failed to reach the postseason, but the action on the court and the news off the court kept fans engaged.
Angel Reese will start her second season with the Sky and will be joined by Hailey Van Lith, who finished her college basketball career with the TCU Horned Frogs.
However, some unfortunate news has hit the organization as they plan for the future.
Julia Poe, a beat writer for the Sky of the Chicago Tribune, posted an update Monday morning: “Completion of the Chicago Sky’s new training facility in Bedford Park will be delayed into 2026 to accommodate significant additions.”
The new facility is to cost $38 million for the Chicago Sky.
It’s a tough blow for the organization, which was hoping to get into the facility as early as October. Poe mentions “the team still expects the space to be open by the start of next season’s training camp.”

Reese played in 34 games her rookie season. She averaged 32.5 minutes per game and scored 13.6 points. She was also an elite rebounder, leading the league with 13.1 rebounds per game.
Chicago is looking to improve upon a 13-27 season in 2024, where they failed to reach the postseason. The Sky lost their final five games of the season. Chicago also struggled at home, going 6-14.
