‘The View’ Host Whoopi Goldberg Apologizes to Alyssa Farah Griffin for Shocking Question

The co-hosts got into an unexpected discussion on Thursday’s show.

As The View moderator, Whoopi Goldberg often finds herself getting in the middle of her co-hosts and guests if things get too off-topic or heated (remember that recent Matthew McConaughey / Joy Behar moment?). But this time around, it was Whoopi who needed to be reined in.

During a September 14 taping of the ABC morning series, the Sister Act star was casually in the middle of a Hot Topics segment about politics before suddenly stopping her train of thought. As her fellow cast mates looked on, Whoopi quickly turned to co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin and surprised her with a question in regard to her personal life.

“Are you pregnant?” Whoopi bluntly asked Alyssa, who appeared gobsmacked upon hearing the inquiry from her co-star.

“No! Oh my god!” Alyssa immediately replied to Whoopi, as she noted her husband Justin Griffin‘s mother was in the audience. “You can’t say that when my mother-in-law is here, who’s been dying for me to get pregnant! Why, do I look pregnant?” You can see the interaction around the 2:45 mark:

While Sara Haines, Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin all encouraged Whoopi not to answer the question, Whoopi continued. “Yes! I just got a vibe … I’m so sorry!” Whoopi quickly remarked. “Forgive me, I’m just … I see a glow.”

Luckily, Alyssa wasn’t too thrown off by Whoopi’s comment, and she even gave an update on if she ever thought about expanding her family.

“I’m very open to being pregnant soon,” she revealed. “I am not blessed to be pregnant yet, but my husband and I are thinking about it … I’ll take a test when I get home just to be sure.”

As fans watched the exchange go down on the air, it didn’t take long before they responded to the speculation on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“The way I screamed!!” one person wrote. “[Alyssa] does have a different glow. Watch Whoopi be right,” another theorized. “Whoopi reminds me of so many peoples’ Aunties with this!! 😂😂😂,” a different viewer agreed.

It seems that Alyssa wasn’t slighted in the least, though. According to People, after the incident she revealed on a podcast that she knew Whoopi meant no harm. “Whoopi, she thinks out loud sometimes, and I chose to take it as a compliment — that I’m glowing,” she said. “She’s so sweet.”
