“They Said WHAT?!” – WNBA Launches Urgent Probe After Shocking Fan Comments Toward Angel Reese

The WNBA is now facing one of its most intense off-court controversies of the 2025 season as it investigates claims of racial slurs hurled at Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese during a recent game against the Indiana Fever.

According to multiple eyewitnesses, the alleged incident occurred during the second half of the nationally televised Sky-Fever showdown. While Reese was on the bench following a rough first half, fans in the lower section near the Fever bench reportedly yelled racial epithets including the n-word, “go back to where you came from,” and other demeaning phrases laced with racial undertones.

Though Reese remained composed during the game, her body language was noticeably tense afterward. In post-game footage now circulating online, she appears to whisper something to teammate Marina Mabrey, with fans speculating she was venting about the abuse.

The WNBA immediately issued a public statement confirming an internal investigation had been launched.

“We take allegations of fan misconduct, especially racially charged language, extremely seriously. We are working with both teams and security personnel to review footage and identify the individuals responsible,” the league said.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN that Reese has been “shaken but resilient” and has not commented publicly yet. However, representatives for Reese are reportedly preparing a formal response depending on the league’s findings.

Security footage from the arena is being reviewed, and the WNBA has enlisted the help of local law enforcement to identify and possibly ban the offending individuals from future games.

The Fever organization has also released a separate statement of support:

“We condemn racism in all forms. The actions reported do not represent our fans or our values.”

This incident comes just days after Caitlin Clark, Indiana’s star rookie and Reese’s longtime on-court rival, publicly urged fans to “show respect to all athletes regardless of background.”

Ironically, just a few months ago, Reese was one of the league’s most polarizing figures due to her unapologetic confidence and on-court taunts. But now, even her critics are coming to her defense.

On social media, the hashtag #ProtectAngelReese has trended for over 24 hours, with WNBA legends like Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes expressing their outrage.

Former NBA player J.R. Smith tweeted:

“This ain’t it. Y’all wanna support women’s hoops? Start by treating the players like human beings.”

Insiders fear that if the WNBA doesn’t act swiftly, this incident could spark a wider backlash, especially among fans who already perceive racial bias within coverage and commentary.

Regardless of the investigation’s outcome, this moment could mark a turning point in how the WNBA handles crowd behavior and athlete protection moving forward.
