Fans made their feelings clear on where they stand regarding Caitlin Clark and her team’s national anthem choice.
The Indiana Fever played the New York Liberty on Saturday, losing a close game to the defending WNBA champions.
Clark was unable to get a shot off in the final seconds after the Fever went down by two points, prompting controversy as she and the home fans felt she was fouled on the final play.
Their actions at the beginning of the game also grabbed attention.
WNBA teams don’t seem to fancy coming out for the anthem, which isn’t optional, with many choosing to stay in the locker room.
The Fever, however, have lined up for it for the second straight game.
“Are the Fever the only team in the WNBA that stands on the court for the national anthem? The Liberty stayed in the locker room, after the Sky did last Saturday,” Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports wrote in a tweet.

The post garnered plenty of reactions from other users on X.
“As we approach Memorial Day, stuff like this shows how out of touch the @WNBA is even after many sports leagues have pivoted away from this nonsense,” one said.

“I wonder who’s taking the lead there – it’s not the coaches, since the Connecticut Sun were never out for the anthem last year when Stephanie White was there,” someone else wrote.

As noted above, teams do have the option of skipping the national anthem, and they typically tend to do so as they are still going through pregame preparations when it comes on.
Clark and the Fever, however, have been showing up for it, something which has earned them points with fans.
Unfortunately, she is set to miss some time after sustaining an injury since Saturday’s outing.
