Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson had an exceptional year, clinching her third WNBA MVP award. Reflecting on her international achievements, she also secured her second straight gold medal during the 2024 Paris Olympics. But that’s not all; she recently stirred excitement in the sports community by signing a major shoe deal with Nike.
According to Shams Charania from ESPN, Wilson is signing a six-year contract extension with Nike in one of the richest shoe deals for a women’s basketball player. While the specifics of the agreement remain under wraps, Charania highlighted that it stands out as one of the highest-paid shoe endorsements in the game.
“Wilson’s new deal ranks among the highest-paid shoe endorsements in the sport, alongside those of 2024 WNBA No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark, USC star JuJu Watkins and Liberty standout Sabrina Ionescu.” Charania wrote in his recent reports.
Wilson joined Nike’s elite group of signature athletes back in May. Moreover, she revealed her upcoming signature shoe, the “A’One,” set to hit the shelves in spring 2025.
Dawn Staley Envisions Unique Statue For A’ja Wilson At South Carolina
Throughout her career, A’ja Wilson has reached numerous milestones and continues to enhance her legacy. On September 15, 2024, she made history by becoming the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season. She accomplished this remarkable feat by scoring 29 points in the Las Vegas Aces’ 84–71 victory over the Connecticut Sun.
Wilson achieved another remarkable feat in the 2024 WNBA season. In light of her extraordinary achievements, her former college coach, Dawn Staley, expressed her wish for A’ja Wilson to be the only player honored with a statue at the University of South Carolina.
“I wanted A’ja Wilson to have the only statue, I did really. I was living through her, right? Because it’s something that doesn’t happen very often and it doesn’t happen very often to a young person for what my statue would stand for.” Staley said.
Wilson led the Aces to the playoffs during the 2024 WNBA season. In the First Round, they faced the Seattle Storm and won the series. However, they lost against the New York Liberty in the semifinals.
