DiJonai Carrington has fired back following social media comments from WNBA fans who want to see her punished by the league amid claims that she’s a dirty player.

Carrington was assessed a flagrant-1 foul against the Seattle Storm earlier in the week after a stiff challenge on Skylar Diggins, and leads the league in flagrants.

Fans have been accusing her of purposely playing dirty, while others are calling for her to be disciplined in a bid to get her to stop committing hard fouls against opposition players running the fast break.

“this is becoming a problem. she needs to be reprimanded by the league. she’s a liability,” one fan wrote on X.

“That girl is a menace to this sport!” another declared.

“🤔 I remember her clawing the ball out of Caitlin’s eye last year, it’s a physical assault league they say proudly 😳😜😎😇,” said another.

Carrington has apparently heard the noise as she’s gotten on social media to address the accusations, insisting she simply goes hard and doesn’t give up on plays. She also noted that the Dallas Wings challenged her last few flagrant calls and had them rescinded.

“Yall fAnS swear i’m such a dirty player,” she wrote in a tweet. ” I’m SO over this narrative bc if u really know bball, u know I jus play hard asf & never give up on a play. &yup, we challenged the last couple flagrants & got em rescinded bc I’m ALWAYS tryna make a play on the ball nun more, nun less.”

Carrington’s tough defense is one of the reasons she was named the league’s Most Improved Player last season. Playing on the other side of the ball has been putting food on the table, but she might need to consider toning things down just a bit, as it appears she’s developing a reputation.

Meanwhile, the Wings will be back in action this Friday night and hope to end their game against the Los Angeles Sparks in the win column. They’ve won just one game in eight outings to start the season.
