“It’s Like Comparing Apples And Oranges”: WNBA Legend Candace Parker Weighs In On Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese Rivalry

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have taken the WNBA by storm. They have brought a wave of attention and excitement to women’s basketball. Many compare them to legendary NBA duos like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. But not everyone is buying into that storyline.

In a candid interview with Jemele Hill, WNBA legend Candace Parker made it clear that while Clark and Reese have helped elevate the league’s profile, comparisons between the two are exaggerated and misleading.

“Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, it’s like what are we doing? They like doing the Magic and Bird comparison, well they played similar positions. They at least kind of matched up. I’m not falling into that,” Parker said.

Parker doubled down on her perspective. She emphasized the stark differences between the two players.

“It’s like comparing apples and oranges. I’m not falling into that. I think there are a number of things that AR can improve on,” she added.

When the conversation shifted to Caitlin Clark, Parker’s tone became more analytical. While Clark is well-known for her long-range shooting, Parker believes her value goes far beyond her scoring.

“The thing about Caitlin, yes, she can shoot from the logo, but she makes her team better. So I think in terms of her growth, it’s going to be about movement — what are you doing without the ball in your hands? I think it’s also going to be about taking care of the ball. Those two things,” Candace said.

Candace Parker’s praise isn’t unwarranted. Clark has already made a significant impact on the Indiana Fever. Last season, she helped the team clinch a playoff berth for the first time in eight years.
