Where’s Whoopi? Goldberg Skips The View This Week for an Italian Honor — Here’s When She’ll Be Back

New York, NY — Viewers tuning into The View this week may have noticed something missing — or rather, someone: longtime moderator Whoopi Goldberg.

But don’t worry, it’s not drama this time.

Goldberg is taking the week off to attend a prestigious literary event in Italy, where she received an international award for her memoir, Bits and Pieces. According to co-host Joy Behar, Goldberg is “in Italy accepting an award,” and jokingly added on Monday’s live broadcast: “We are all jealous of Whoopi today — I hope it’s 100 degrees!”

The show is also preparing for its annual July 4th hiatus, and Goldberg is expected to return on July 7, just as The View resumes new episodes.

In her absence, Behar will step in as moderator — a role she regularly covers on Fridays — while Ana Navarro joined the table to kick off the week.

Goldberg took to Instagram over the weekend to share a heartfelt thank you to the Taobuk Taormina International Book Festival, where she accepted the honor.

“Thank you (Grazie!) @taobukfestival for giving me a beautiful experience in an extraordinary environment, an honorable award and your kindness,” she wrote. “Books are so important to all the world.”

Italy, by the way, isn’t a new adventure for The View’s crew. Behar has a storied (and hilariously chaotic) travel history with the country — including one infamous train incident she recounted on the show last year, where she clashed with a lounge attendant over bathroom access.

“I said, ‘Listen, don’t be a bitch.’ She wouldn’t let me go,” Behar admitted, recalling the moment on air.

So while Whoopi enjoys Italian accolades (and possibly pasta), fans can expect her signature Hot Topics heat back at the table very soon.

TL;DR: Whoopi Goldberg is out this week for an awards trip to Italy and will return to The View on July 7.
